It’s been a while since we here at GamerFeed Radio have put ourselves through the mental gymnastics of trying to distill our entire gaming past into a simple numbered list of favorites. We’ve also picked up a few more correspondents since Nick and Rob last hashed out their “tops” way back on Episode 2. So, here’s a brief glimpse of our gaming tastes from a recent trip the GamerFeed crew took down Memory Card Lane.

I am a very nostalgic gamer. Those sprites that made me first fall in love with gaming to begin with I hold in very high regard, and have earned their spot. Many other games are sitting right on the edge and I could have interchanged my order and last three picks depending on my mood for the day. With so many generations of games to pick from selecting a top 10 is very difficult. Yet, I always gravitate towards games in the RPG, adventure and sports realms.

Like many of us here at GFR, I grew up with the golden age of platformers and RPGs. Nobody makes games like Square and Rare did in the late 90s and early 2000s. Games were so limited graphically that developers had to use everything else they had at their disposal in order to make a truly fun game. So everything we lacked in pretty graphics were matched by creative story telling, lovable characters and atmospheric music. That’s what makes a good game, which is why more modern games like Arkham City and Persona 3 are on this list because they keep that attitude of game making alive. As for Halo, sometimes I like to shoot things. ‘Merica.

I have a taste that pretty much touches all the big franchises from yesteryear. Some have endured…others are classics with more remakes than the law allows. All the merrier for those that really need to play the classics that made today what it is. I find it hilarious that none of my top 10 games have really happened “recently” with the exception of Civ 4. What does that say about the state of games today? Kinda sad.
Rob
My top ten games are mainly a reflection of the time I’ve put into them. I have poured so many hours of my life into these games. The Zelda and Metroid games I’ve played through so many times I couldn’t even venture a guess at the numbers. My WoW /played number is staggering. To see ten years of playing expressed in a numeric quantity; literal weeks and months of my life across all characters, yet it’s probably midrange at best within the WoW community. The RPGs represent games that have managed to hold my unwavering attention for the duration of a lengthy 60, 80 or 100+ hour play through. These are the games that keep drawing me back to play them again time after time. Because of that each of them has earned their way into my top ten.
